Welcome to the Madhouse
Baseball, as with other sports is intimate. Think back for a minute.....
You walk into stadium, what are the first things you can see, smell, touch? All of your senses are on fire. You smell the grass, the concrete, the fresh popcorn, and numerous other items you don't smell every day. You see the gates, and both young and old get that sense of excitement as you walk through. Batting practice has started so you move quickly down to the front row to catch a glimpse of your favorite player, and maybe grab an autograph of whoever is standing close by. You hear the crack of the bat, the ball hitting a glove, the vendors trying to sell a hotdog or beer, and the umpires telling you balls, strikes and outs.
As a child growing up, going to a game was an experience that could match nothing else. My dad used to surprise me with trips to Shea Stadium and everything that you could feel would run through my blood every time I would see the cookie cutter circle stadium and walk through those gates. It's not just an event, it's an experience.
This is what I try to pass on to my children.
The current ages of my kids are 17, 8, 5, and 1. Wide range I know. I have never pushed sports onto them, even favorite teams, but they have seemed to follow for the most part. I have always told my 8-year-old son, you don't have to like the same things I do, its OK if you don't, but he seems to follow anyway.
This blog is a way for me to save some memories of the journeys the kids and I embrace. We have started a baseball card business, not to make money, but to fuel the hobby for ourselves. We keep who we want and sell who we don't. Everyone has their place in the "business", and they all love to do it. There are no set hours, and most of the time it's me loading things on Ebay or Whatnot.
This blog will just be a place for me to talk about sports, the hobby, and just life with sports and kids combined.
So, give us a follow, check out the links in the tab to the left, and let's see where this crazy sports world and trading card hobby will take us.
